Seachtain na Gaeilge 2015

Beidh Seachtain na Gaeilge ar siúl ón 1- 17ú Márta. We will celebrate Irish fortnight from the 1st- 17th of March. Representatives from each class will read “An Nuacht agus an aimsir” (the news & weather) over the school intercom each day. There will be a Seanfhocail (Irish saying) art competition for all classes. Teachers will be choosing “Gaeilgeoir an Lae” (Irish speaker of the day) during this time and the classes will be celebrating our beautiful language through rhyme, song and drama. The highlight of Seachtain na Gaeilge will be our annual “Lá Glas & Ceolchoirm” (Wear green & concert day) on Friday 13th of March. Pupils are encouraged to wear green/ the Ireland colours. Each class will be preforming songs and poems “as Gaeilge” for their peers and enjoying a Céilí Mór in the hall. Do try and practice “cúpla focail” at home. Thanks to Mrs. L. Cummins for co-ordinating our great schedule of Seachtain na Gaeilge events.

Visit from Dublin Zoo

We had a special visitor from Dublin Zoo who came to talk to the classes about all the wonderful animals they have there. Jim brought with him an elephant's foot, some animal skins, a turtle shell and an ostrich egg. He then showed a video of all the various zoo animals including their new arrivals, a baby giraffe, a baby Asian lion cub and the latest elephant calf. The children had a fantastic time listening to all of Jim's zoo stories. Maybe over the midterm break you might like to visit Dublin Zoo for yourselves and see all the animals face to face. Birthday Treats and Invitations

Following discussions with staff and the Parents' Association, it was agreed that parents would not send cakes, sweets or party bags to school to celebrate their child's birthday. Handing these out takes up a lot of teaching and learning time, can put pressure on other parents to supply the same and goes against our Healthy Eating Policy. Children are made feel extra special on their birthday by both the class teacher and the school community without the need for a party in the classroom.
Also if you wish to distribute birthday invitations in the class, this must be done discreetly between 9-9.20am and only in the case where it is not possible to deliver them outside of the classroom. It is not the teacher's role to distribute birthday invitations and should not be asked to do so.

We appreciate your co-operation and understanding in this matter.
