Tuesday the 15th of March was Proclamation Day for schools across Ireland. We celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising with a number of activities on the day. The flag was raised by Brendan, our caretaker, and Caroline Quinlan, from the Parents Association While it was being raised, we sang the National Anthem, 'Amhrán na bhFiann'.
The original 1916 Proclamation was read out by four children, Cara McDonagh, Noah Lyons, Juwaria Bager and Julia Grattan.
Our 2016 Proclamation for our school, which was composed by children in our school and is unique to our school, was read by Conor Mulvey, Emma Dowling and Charlie McCaffrey.
You can have a look at our School Proclamation by following the link below! The children involved in writing it have their names printed at the bottom of it just like the original signatories!
The overall 1916 Story Winner was Noah Lyons in Ms Feeney's class. His story was read out by Robert Downes in Ms Feeney's class. We heard some poetry which was composed by the following First Class children-Maria Mateies (Room 7), Justin Hysai (Room 8), Grace Allen (Room 10) and Chloe Marrey (Room 9).
All of the children in Junior and Senior Infants sang 'Óró Sé do Bheatha 'Bhaile'.
It was a fantastic day. Music provided by Ms. Whelan added to the fun. Here are some photos of the day.
