1916 Rising Commememorations

On Tuesday 15th March, we will be celebrating the 1916 Rising Commemorations by hosting a number of activities around the school. At 11am, the Irish Flag will be raised on our new flag pole at the front of the school building. All parents are welcomed to this event, where the children will attend and sing Amhrán na bhFiann & Óró Sé Do Bheatha Bhaile.

There have been a number of activities happening around the school to commemorate the 1916 Rising.
  • The Junior & Senior Infant children took part in a poster competition where they had to imagine what 1916 was like & then draw of picture of it.
  • The 1st class children listened to poems by Padraig Pearse and were set the task of writing their own poem to commemorate 1916.
  • Finally the 2nd classes were asked to examine and discuss the Proclamation and then write their own Proclamation for 2016.

The winning entries from these activities will be read out on Tuesday in front of the whole school. It is sure to be a great event and one that won't happen for another 100 years!!!
