We chose the week of Monday 14th June to Friday 18th June for our Active School Week 2021 and we were absolutely blessed with the weather which helped to make it such a great week.
Each day, we started our day with a Wake Up, Shake Up. We had students from our Second Classes record activities in English and in Irish and these videos were played each morning. When each video finished, we went straight into a set of exercises. such as a Ten@10, some Cosmic Yoga or a GoNoodle fitness video. This was a great way to start our day.
After our first break, we always had some fitness challenges to test ourselves. The children all showed off their strength and coordination in plank challenges, jumping activities and balloon keepy-uppy games! Following on from these activities, we had a different dance to perform each day, such as Magic Dust or a funky balloon dance.
As it was Active Schools Week, we concentrated on active homework instead of written work for the week. We were sent some brilliant videos of the children creating obstacle courses, shooting over cans with water pistols and showing off their silky scooter skills. Well done to all of the children who completed these activities all set by Irish Olympians.
We were delighted that Tuesday and Thursday were such lovely, sunny days as these were our Sports Days. Each class picked a country to represent for the day (Junior Infants and Second Class on Tuesday, Senior Infants and First Classes on Thursday) and dressed up in the colours of their country's flag. They made large banners, headbands and flags and marched around the yard, chanting songs, using phrases from those countries and shouting until they were hoarse! We loved it.
